Summary

Librarian's note: Alternate cover editions can be found hereherehere and here

When a plane crashes on a remote island, a small group of schoolboys are the sole survivors。 From the prophetic Simon and virtuous Ralph to the lovable Piggy and brutish Jack, each of the boys attempts to establish control as the reality - and brutal savagery - of their situation sets in。

The boys' struggle to find a way of existing in a community with no fixed boundaries invites readers to evaluate the concepts involved in social and political constructs and moral frameworks。 Ideas of community, leadership, and the rule of law are called into question as the reader has to consider who has a right to power, why, and what the consequences of the acquisition of power may be。 Often compared to Catcher in the RyeLord of the Flies also represents a coming-of-age story of innocence lost。

I can’t…。。 I… I can’t even rate it。 I’m traumatized to say the LEAST。 I can’t even recommend this book because I think that would be genuinely inhumane and I don’t want anybody else to feel like this。

Interesting, at least

Re-Reading this from high school creates a different perspective of the book and the issues that arise in it。 It shows the savage and sometimes true side of humanity in the worst form。

got a lot better towards the end, the first half was excruciatingly boring imo

This book had every everything in it。 It shows us actions from kids that I never thought they would do。 When I first read this book, I expected it to be an adventure book。 It gave us situation where the kids live in different ways of life。 This is a great book to read if you like to read the unexpected to happen。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Me gustó mucho la forma en como la historia se va transformando, pasando de los pensamientos inocentes de los niños hasta los rincones más oscuros del alma humana。 La manera en que describe los parajes de la isla es fantástica, hasta el punto de casi poder verla ante tus ojos, y las palabras finales del libro resumen toda la situación vivida de un manera que me dejó mucho que pensar。

2。5 ⭐️。 This had been on my TBR list forever, and I finally got around to reading it。 Overall I was slightly disappointed, especially for a book marked as a classic。 I found myself taking much longer to finish a book of this length than I should have and I think it may be because of how slow moving it was。 I agree with some other critics in their disdain for the lack of character development, but I thought the main lesson and takeaway from this book were really interesting。 I also loved how I ca 2。5 ⭐️。 This had been on my TBR list forever, and I finally got around to reading it。 Overall I was slightly disappointed, especially for a book marked as a classic。 I found myself taking much longer to finish a book of this length than I should have and I think it may be because of how slow moving it was。 I agree with some other critics in their disdain for the lack of character development, but I thought the main lesson and takeaway from this book were really interesting。 I also loved how I can see the inspiration that was taken from this book in a lot of modern culture (Lost? Survivor?) I would like to reread again someday and see if I get better impressions the second time around。 。。。more

I always wanted I read this book because it was referenced so often in life。 Maybe I had built it up in my head because it was a classic。 I was bored for most of it, expected more character development and thought the ending was abrupt and unsatisfying。 I didn’t become attached to any characters and thought that although the books premise was interesting that very little else was。 I regret reading it。

It took 6 months, having it be the book of the cycle in our book club, 1 meaningful discussion about it and an extra walk for me to finish this book, I think that the audiobook that I've listened to made this book worse but I found that reading this book was difficult for my colleagues too, many didn't attend the discussion because of how slow everything is in it and how hard it was to read, So again, I have to declare my hate for classics and that I "have to" like them because everyone does。Thi It took 6 months, having it be the book of the cycle in our book club, 1 meaningful discussion about it and an extra walk for me to finish this book, I think that the audiobook that I've listened to made this book worse but I found that reading this book was difficult for my colleagues too, many didn't attend the discussion because of how slow everything is in it and how hard it was to read, So again, I have to declare my hate for classics and that I "have to" like them because everyone does。This though, after finding out that I missed so much from this book from my friends discussing it, I hope that one day I'll come back to it and really appreciate it, I don't think that I'll be visiting any of the classics again anytime soon but I really hope, one day。。。 。。。more

I can see why this book is a classic that has stood the test of time and is commonly assigned reading in high school。 It's an easy read with clearly identifiable themes and motifs。 The writing style is a bit choppy which serves to put you in the mind of a young boy where deep thought and reasoning isn't the norm。 The book definitely gets better in the second half。 I understood and felt the weight of the ending, but it left me wanting for retributive justice。 I can see why this book is a classic that has stood the test of time and is commonly assigned reading in high school。 It's an easy read with clearly identifiable themes and motifs。 The writing style is a bit choppy which serves to put you in the mind of a young boy where deep thought and reasoning isn't the norm。 The book definitely gets better in the second half。 I understood and felt the weight of the ending, but it left me wanting for retributive justice。 。。。more

3。5/5。 Това е от онези книги, които не знаеш дали обичаш или мразиш。 Не съжалявам, че я прочетох обаче。

The first half of the book almost bored me out。 However, overall, it was a good read。 Kudos to the analysis at the end of the book, it really helped me clarify some of the details that I struggled to understand while reading the book。

They spend like 5 pages explaining a rock then will spring something drastic on you and go on like nothing happened。 …。This book is slow and boring and should’ve stayed in the time period which it was written

Fred

Seemed to be a shallow, agenda driven story。 Need to learn more about Golding to substantiate this。 Depressing book。
